The following is list of people you can contact for help and advice if a child in your
life is in foster care:
- Social worker
Social workers can be a great support for children and families, especially foster parents. They can recommend and link families to appropriate services. If you have questions or concerns about the child in your care, never hesitate to ask the child's social worker for help and guidance.
- Pediatrician or nurse practitioner
Health care providers can help assure your child gets the health series identified above when they enter foster care. They will also periodically exam the child in your care to make sure they are growing and developing to their best potential. They will work with you and your child's social worker to link with any medical services your child might need.
- Local Agencies and Support Groups
Most communities have a number of helpful agencies, programs and groups to support children and families involved with the foster care system. If you live in San Diego, California, we have provided you with a list of local agencies. To view the complete list, click here. If you live outside the San Diego area, contact the child's social worker or pediatrician for a list of local agencies in your area.
